LASER HAIR REMOVAL IN HILLIARD, OH

Laser hair removal uses light energy to damage hair follicles so they grow less hair over time. After a series of treatments, most people see a large, long-lasting reduction in hair, with any regrowth usually finer and lighter. At Fade Aesthetics and Wellness in Hilliard, we treat the face, underarms, legs, and bikini area, with a plan built around your hair and skin type.

What Laser Hair Removal Can Realistically Do

Laser hair removal is a hair reduction treatment. It can significantly thin out hair and leave areas smooth for months or years, but it isn’t a guarantee that every hair is gone forever.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, most patients remain hair-free for months or even years after completing treatment. When some hair regrows, there tends to be less of it, and it’s usually finer and lighter. Occasional maintenance sessions help keep the area smooth.

Why You Need a Series of Treatments

Hair grows in cycles. At any given time, some hairs are actively growing, some are transitioning, and some are resting. The laser works best on hairs in the active growth phase, when the follicle is most connected to the hair. That means each session only reaches a portion of your hair. Treatments are spaced out so the laser can catch more follicles as they cycle into the growth phase. The AAD notes that most patients need 2 to 6 treatments, and some areas or hair types need more. Your provider will recommend a plan and spacing for each area.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Lasers target the pigment in hair, so your hair color and skin tone both affect how well treatment works and which settings are safest.

Hair color

dark hair responds best. Very light blonde, red, gray, or white hair has little pigment and usually doesn’t respond well.

Skin tone

the contrast between hair and skin matters. Your provider will adjust settings for your skin to lower the risk of burns or pigment changes.

Tanning

recently tanned skin, including from self-tanner, raises risk, so you may need to wait.
At your consultation, your provider will look at your hair and skin, ask about medications and health history, and tell you honestly what results to expect.

How to Prepare

What a Session Feels Like

Redness, swelling, and mild discomfort are the most common side effects and usually last one to three days, according to the AAD. Over the next few weeks, treated hairs will shed. It can look like regrowth, but it’s the damaged hair working its way out.

  • Protect treated skin from the sun, and use sunscreen daily between sessions
  • Skip hot tubs, saunas, and heavy workouts for a day or two if your skin feels irritated
  • Shave between sessions if needed, but don’t wax or pluck

When to Start

Because treatments are spaced over several months, fall and winter are a good time to begin. Less sun exposure makes treatment easier, and you can finish much of your series before summer. See why in summer-ready skin with laser hair removal.

Laser Hair Removal FAQs
Is laser hair removal permanent?
It provides long-term hair reduction, not a guarantee that every hair is gone forever. Most people see a large reduction after a full series, and some choose occasional maintenance sessions.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the area, your hair color and thickness, and your skin. Many people need several sessions spaced weeks apart, and your provider will recommend a plan at your consultation.
Can I shave between sessions?
Yes. Shaving is fine, and it is recommended before each treatment. Avoid waxing, plucking, and threading, since those remove the root the laser needs to target.
What should I expect after my first session?
Your skin may be red or slightly swollen for a day or so. In the following weeks, treated hairs shed, and you’ll likely notice slower, patchier regrowth.
Does laser hair removal work for men?
Yes. Men often treat areas like the back, chest, shoulders, or neck. Your provider will recommend a plan based on the area and your hair.
