What "Hormone Optimization" Means at Fade

We use “hormone optimization” to describe a clinical process: measuring hormone levels, interpreting them alongside your symptoms and health history, and, when appropriate, treating to bring levels into a healthy range for you. The goal is to address specific symptoms linked to hormone changes, not to promise a younger you.

Symptoms That May Prompt an Evaluation

Hormone levels naturally change with age, especially during perimenopause, menopause, and gradual declines in testosterone. Symptoms that lead people to ask about hormones include:
Symptoms alone don’t confirm a hormone problem. Many of these can come from thyroid issues, sleep problems, stress, medications, or other conditions. That’s why every plan starts with an evaluation and lab work.

Who We Treat

Our providers see women with perimenopause and menopause symptoms and men with symptoms that may be related to low testosterone. Your provider will confirm at your consultation whether hormone therapy is a reasonable option for you.

Who We Treat

Our providers see women with perimenopause and menopause symptoms and men with symptoms that may be related to low testosterone. Your provider will confirm at your consultation whether hormone therapy is a reasonable option for you.

Our Clinical Process

  1. Consultation. Your provider asks about your symptoms, health history, medications, and goals, and explains what hormone therapy can and can’t do.
  2. Lab work. Blood tests measure your hormone levels. Your provider may also check other markers that affect how you feel or whether treatment is safe for you.
  3. Review and plan. Your provider interprets your results alongside your symptoms and history. If treatment makes sense, they’ll recommend a plan and explain the options, benefits, and risks. If it doesn’t, they’ll tell you and may suggest seeing your primary care provider.
  4. Treatment. If you move forward, treatment begins based on your plan.
  5. Monitoring and adjustments. Follow-up visits and repeat labs track your levels and symptoms, and your provider adjusts your plan as needed.

Treatment Options: Biote Hormone Pellets

Fade partners with Biote to offer bioidentical hormone pellet therapy. Bioidentical hormones have the same chemical structure as the hormones your body makes. The pellets are about the size of a grain of rice and are placed under the skin, usually near the hip, during a short in-office procedure with local numbing. Pellets release hormones gradually over several months, typically 3 to 5 months for women and 4 to 6 months for men, so there are no daily pills or creams to remember. The trade-off is that the dose can’t be adjusted until the pellet wears off, which is why careful dosing and follow-up matter. Hormone pellets are prepared by a compounding pharmacy, and they aren’t FDA-approved products the way many hormone patches, gels, and pills are. Your provider will talk with you about how pellets compare with FDA-approved options and help you decide what fits your situation.

Potential Benefits, Limitations, and Risks

Hormonal imbalance can manifest in various ways, impacting sleep, energy levels, and mood. Biote’s BHRT offers a personalized approach to address these concerns, allowing for a more targeted and potentially gentler approach to restoring hormonal balance. Here’s how it works:

1

Potential benefits

For people with confirmed hormone changes, treatment may ease symptoms like hot flashes, sleep problems, low libido, and low energy. Responses vary, and some symptoms may have other causes.
2

Limitations

Hormone therapy isn’t a weight loss treatment or an anti-aging cure, and it won’t resolve symptoms caused by something else. Improvement can take weeks to months.
3

Risks

Pellet insertion can cause bruising, soreness, or rarely infection or a pellet working its way out. Hormone-related side effects can include acne, oily skin, unwanted hair growth, breast tenderness, mood changes, and changes in blood counts. Hormone therapy also carries longer-term considerations, which your provider will review based on your personal and family history.
Hormone therapy may not be appropriate if you have a history of certain cancers, blood clots, stroke, heart disease, or liver disease, or if you’re pregnant or trying to become pregnant.

Hormone Therapy FAQs

Do I need lab work before starting?

Yes. Lab work helps your provider understand your hormone levels and whether treatment is appropriate and safe for you. Repeat labs are part of ongoing monitoring.

How soon will I notice a difference?
It varies. Some people notice changes within a few weeks, while others take a few months. Your provider will review your progress at follow-up visits.
How often are pellets replaced?
Typically every 3 to 5 months for women and every 4 to 6 months for men, based on your symptoms and labs.
Is hormone therapy a lifelong treatment?
Not necessarily. Some people use it for a period of time, and others continue longer. Your provider will reassess regularly and talk with you about how long it makes sense.
Does insurance cover hormone therapy?
Coverage varies, and pellet therapy often isn’t covered. Ask about costs at your consultation.
