If you’ve ever felt self-conscious about excess fat beneath your chin, this non-surgical, highly effective option is your best choice to sculpt and redefine your jawline. Here’s how it works to reduce the fat on your chin:
Injection
The treatment begins with a healthcare professional injecting the specialized solution beneath the chin using a fine needle. The injections are strategically administered to target the area of submental fullness or double chin.
Fat Cell Targeting
Kybella’s active ingredient, deoxycholic acid, specifically targets the membranes of unwanted fat cells in the treated area. This potent acid works to break down and disrupt the structure of these fat cells.
Fat Cell Disruption
As the membranes of the targeted fat cells are compromised, the contents within the cells are released into the surrounding tissue. This process starts the natural metabolic breakdown of the fat.
Gradual Elimination
Over time, the body’s lymphatic system works to metabolize and eliminate the treated fat cell remnants. This gradual elimination process helps to reveal a more defined jawline as the treated area becomes slimmer.
Sculpted Jawline
The chin area experiences a reduction in submental fullness. As the body’s natural healing process continues, the visible results become increasingly apparent, typically within a few weeks after treatment.

Kybella Chin Fat Removal FAQs and Aftercare
In the first few days following your Kybella procedure, you will be quite swollen in the treatment area. This will improve each day following treatment.
- Do not touch, rub or manipulate the treatment area for 5-7 days following your treatment. This reduces bruising, pain, discomfort, irritation, and injection to the injection sites.
- Do not apply makeup to the area for at least 72 hours.
- Avoid intense exercise, sun, and heat exposure for 7 days following your treatment.
- Try to sleep on your back with your head elevated for 3-5 following your treatment. Avoid laying flat during this time. This will help to decrease the swelling under your chin following your treatment.
- Avoid alcohol for 48hours before and following your treatment in order to reduce bruising to the area.
- Avoid any treatments, including injectables, laser, ultrasound, peels, facials, or micro-dermabrasion, to the same area where you have just received a Kybella treatment for the next 14 days.

Patients can generally resume normal daily activities immediately following treatment. However, in order to reduce the risk of infection and decrease bruising and swelling, we recommend avoiding strenuous exercise for 5-7 days following your treatment.
